Skill Requirements

Here at the Algonquin Sewing Center we have a variety of classes which are suitable for various skills and abilities:

Beginner:

Our Beginner Level classes are for those who are completely new to sewing & quilting. Sewing machine knowledge and/or experience is not a requirement to sign up for these classes as the instructor will be covering all the basics with you in the program. Although personal sewing machine are recommended upon registration they are not mandatory as we have rental machine available upon request.

Confident Beginner:

Our Confident Beginner classes are for those who have already participated in quilting program(s) in the past and/or have previously sewing or quilting experience but are looking to expand their knowledge and techniques. It is preferable that you have your own sewing machine for this classes and be familiar with how to use it.

Intermediate:

Our Intermediate level classes are for those who have already participated in quilting programs in the past and have previously knowledge and confidence with a variety of quilting/sewing skills and techniques.

These are classes that focus on more complicated projects and techniques that require fundamental knowledge to participate in. We do not recommend registering for any of our intermediate level classes if you have not previously participated in a program or class with the Algonquin Sewing Center before.

Class Requirements

Unless otherwise stated, all classes require a sewing machine in good working order, a basic sewing kit including a rotary cutter and pattern/supplies for the project. We provide cutting boards, rulers, and irons but you are welcome to bring your own. We recommended that you bring a lunch (or snacks) with you.
